Dental phobia can have wide ranging consequences on a persons life. Not only does their dental health suffer, but dental phobia may lead to anxiety and depression. Dental phobia is often caused by bad dental experiences. Treatment is generally carried out under sedation. Our wide-ranging experience indicates that this technique provides a high level of guarantee that patients experience virtually no pain or swelling.

General Anesthesia
More complex treatments may require drugs that can induce "deep sedation," causing a loss of feeling and reducing consciousness in order to relieve both pain and anxiety. On occasion, patients undergo "general anesthesia," in which drugs cause a temporary loss of consciousness. |
Deep Sedation
You will be sedated enough so that you will feel sleepy, but comfortable. Sedation dentistry does not make you sleep. In fact during sedation dentistry, you will be awake and able to respond to commands. |

There is always an MD-anesthesiologist present for those patients who want to have major procedures performed in general Anesthesia or deep sedation over many hours.
|
We perform every year an average of 100 dental treatmens under deep sedation or IV general anesthesia either for children or adult patients who fear a conventional dental treatment or those who undergo comprehensive surgery or full mouth reconstructions. Every procedure performed under IV general anesthesia or deep sedation is beeing supervised by an MD-anesthesist and fully qualified staff. The monitoring equipment is state of the art. A anaesthetic recovery room is of course available. |

One way we help fearful patients to cope with their dental work is by giving them control. We give them the control over what we do, when we do it, how we do it, how much it will cost, what it will look like and how it will function. Our patients acquire a great deal of understanding about the their total dental care and become comfortable with the process.
We also give our patients control over the potential of pain both during and after any procedures. If a patient feels any pain during a procedure we stop treatment until all pain sensation is gone. We also offer patients intravenous conscious sedation for those ones who really need to minimize their awareness during dental procedures. |
